The MathTutorDVD.com Story
My name is Jason Gibson, founder of MathTutorDVD.com and teacher in all of the videos.
I have always been a good tutor, with friends frequently asking me to help them in various subjects in Math and Science.
One afternoon in late 2004 after helping a friend with Algebra a comment was made that I should record myself solving math problems and make the content available to anyone who needed some help.
With this idea in mind I began filming some algebra content and made the first three hours available for sale on eBay as a CD-ROM that I burned with my home computer. The CDs began selling, and the email feedback from the students and teachers began flooding in. With this encouragement, I continued filming algebra eventually reaching 10 hours of content. By this time it took 2 full CD-ROMs to fit all of the video material and at least 10 minutes to burn a complete copy for each customer. I had a steady stream of orders and finally decided to put this material on DVD and have them mass produced. This is how the "Math Video Tutor - Fractions Thru Algebra" was born!
The "Math Video Tutor" DVD was a huge success on eBay which encouraged me to continue filming content. I produced the "Algebra 2 Tutor" and the "Trigonometry & Pre-Calculus Tutor" early 2005 which were both great successes. By this time I had a loyal group of customers with a steady stream of email traffic asking me "when is your next video due to release?" For my next title I had my eye on Calculus. Calculus is one of those subjects which is traditionally thought to be not only hard, but "very hard". My goal was to make it as easy as 3rd grade Math. I finished the calculus tutor in 2005 and the students and teachers loved it!
My next projects involved a DVD in Physics and a DVD in Basic Math, which were released in 2006. These DVDs have both done very well with great user feedback. I am particularly proud of the Physics Tutor because it is a difficult subject to teach mainly because it is a combination of two subjects tough for lots of people - math and word problems.
In 2007 I launched the redesigned MathTutorDVD.com website which contains sample videos of all of the DVDs. In 2010 we launched the Member's area which allows students to view all of our courses online for one low monthly rate.
I pride myself on providing quality educational content at affordable prices, and I have a passion for making "complex" subjects easy to understand.
So what does the future hold for MathTutorDVD.com? I have embarked on a comprehensive Chemistry series which is an ongoing project. To date I have 40+ hours of chemistry tutorials alone!
In addition, I have begun to develop an Engineering Circuit Analysis course which is many dozens of hours of length and is also an ongoing project.
Going forward, you'll see Math Tutor DVD focus on more advanced Chemistry, Engineering, and Statistics topics. I plan for Math Tutor DVD to be a comprehensive resourse in all levels of Math, Science, and Engineering with quality step-by-step teaching.
Sincerest thanks to all those who have spread the word regarding Math Tutor DVD!
